Progressive load tempo heart rate training w/10 mi Progressive load tempo heart rate training w/10 minute increasing pace intervals for 45 minutes. For years I have never eaten before sub-60min training sessions and always trained fasted. Only zero calorie electrolytes but no carbs/fats/protein. It’s the only way to train the body to burn fat not carbs as the primary endurance fuel. These sessions are hard and push you to simulate race pace load at threshold heart rate. @peakstatefit @trainingpeaks @wahoofitnessofficial @garmin @whoop @garrettwilchek #roadtokona #trainlowracehigh #fatadapted #strongerthanyesterday @ironmantri @hokaoneone #yournewprime

Working with the team @peakstatefit coaching to ge Working with the team @peakstatefit coaching to get me race ready for @ironmantri 70.3 Hawaii in May. Doing ~80% of bike/run training indoors in order to maximize effort, pace levels, and training effect. I’ve never had anyone train me properly for a race before and having an endurance and sports nutrition coach is a game changer for me when combined with @trainingpeaks. I’m 57 in a few months so I need to train much differently as every year passes. More rest, less impact, and data driven workouts to maximize results. And as for all the indoor cycling I’m doing you just have to see all the “ghost bikes” around Newport Beach to tell you how dangerous it is on the roads around here - so I’m only doing one long actual “road” session a week. I don’t bounce off concrete like I used to and having guided at the @cafoundation event this year I met way too many bike accident victims in wheelchairs - I’m not going to be one of them. @gozwift @wahoofitnessofficial @garmin #strongerthanyesterday #wahooligan #paincave #yournewprime #trainsmarternotharder #kickr
Kobe was our neighbor for 13 years. He lived 8 hou Kobe was our neighbor for 13 years. He lived 8 houses away from us in our gated community and his mother-in-law lived next door to us in a house he bought for her so all the family could be closer together. The world lost a legend but all over Newport Coast we lost a genuinely loved and admired community member. Everybody who lived in Newport Coast had a “Kobe story”. He was religiously at Starbucks every morning picking up his coffee at the same time. He felt safe in Newport as he and his family were left alone - away from the LA paparazzi and Laker fan culture. We remember his beautiful girls coming to the door for Halloween and growing up so fast. One night in a California storm we looked out the window and there were two soaking wet puppies outside our dining room - their noses against the glass with only a number on the collar. We called the number and got Kobe’s house – and with Kobe being on an away-game Vanessa asked if we could bring them back. My youngest daughter Lauren was like “Daddy can I please please take them back!!” – so she did - and the next day we received 24 chocolate strawberries on our front steps “Love Vanessa & Kobe”. Funny the other things you remember like #Kobe always walking his 6 inch high little white fluffy dog around the community on this huge leash dressed in his full white Nike tracksuit – looking like a true baller. “Seeing Kobe” never got old. It wasn’t even like a “celebrity sighting” – it was always just “oh I just saw Kobe at Pavilions” - as if it was an offhand comment – no big deal. I was never a diehard “Laker fan” but I was definitely a “Kobe fan”. For me he was a study in the highest level of elite performance. “Mamba” was just a beautifully executed compartmentalization of his personal and professional life. That’s a level of performance and mental strength the likes of which we cannot even hope to achieve as ordinary humans. Somebody asked him once how he manages with 5 girls in the house and he replied he would have 5 more if he could. I think his love for family was that unlimited - just like all the impact he was making in his second act – an act cut tragically too short. RIP #kobebryant.

Hey everybody I need your help (spoiler alert: I’m asking for donations -link in bio 🙏). Later this month I'm guiding athletes in the @cafoundation Challenged Athlete Foundation Triathlon in San Diego. It's an amazing event that I have followed for a number of years and this year I was offered the chance to personally guide challenged athletes on the day. Blind athletes. War veterans. Individuals with ambulatory challenges. These are people who are so much less fortunate than us physically but who are charging forward in life and thriving - despite their physical disabilities. I'm always reminding myself that I'm so fortunate to be physically able to compete and participate in LIFE and I know that I, like most, often take for granted on a day to day basis how lucky I am to be 100% physically able (most of the time anyway🤔). It's hardly an equivalent comparative but when I'm physically injured, not being at my full potential is really mentally challenging so I can't begin to understand the struggles that those less able have to go through in life every waking hour. ANYWAY I'LL CUT TO THE CHASE: I'd love you to donate to my fundraising page for the event. The link is in my bio. ANY AMOUNT IS A HUGE AMOUNT. Just making the effort to give what you can is awesome. It's a fantastic cause and I'm so humbled to be part of it. Thanks so much.
